The Role

What a psilocybin facilitator actually does.

A facilitator helps you prepare for the experience, is present with you throughout the session, and supports integration afterward. They don’t direct or control what you experience — that’s not how psilocybin works.

During a session, the facilitator’s job is to hold steady presence: ensuring the environment is safe, responding to what comes up, and staying grounded so you can move through whatever the experience brings.

Before and after, the work is relational. Preparation builds trust and gives you tools for working with intensity. Integration creates space to understand what happened and what, if anything, to do with it.

Choosing a Facilitator

How to choose a psilocybin facilitator in Oregon.

  • Licensed under Oregon’s program
  • Takes preparation seriously
  • Doesn’t rush or push you
  • Can handle difficult experiences calmly
  • Offers real integration support
  • Creates a safe, structured environment

Not all facilitators approach this work the same way. The difference shows up in how prepared you feel, how supported you are during the session, and what happens afterward.

About Nate

Why some people choose to work with Nate.

Nate Forest is a licensed psilocybin facilitator under Oregon Measure 109. He completed a state-approved training program and meets the OHA’s licensing requirements — this isn’t informal or gray-area work.

He’s also a TBI survivor. In 2008, a serious car accident left him navigating a traumatic brain injury and years of internal struggle that didn’t respond to conventional approaches. He understands what it means to stay stuck despite effort.

That experience shapes how he works. He leads with lived experience alongside training — grounded, steady, and familiar with what it feels like to still be looking for something that helps.

Common questions

What does a psilocybin facilitator do?

A facilitator helps you prepare for the experience, is present with you during the session, and supports integration afterward. They don’t direct or control what happens — their role is safety, structure, and steady presence.

Is a facilitator the same as a therapist?

No. Psilocybin facilitation isn’t clinical therapy. There’s no diagnosis, no treatment plan, and no ongoing therapeutic relationship. A facilitator provides structure and presence around an experience — not clinical treatment.

How do I know if a facilitator is qualified?

In Oregon, licensed facilitators must complete a state-approved training program and meet licensing requirements set by the Oregon Health Authority. You can ask any facilitator directly for their license status. Nate is a licensed facilitator under Oregon Measure 109.

Do I need experience with psilocybin?

No. Prior experience isn’t a requirement or an advantage. What matters more is the preparation process and whether you’re in a stable place to engage with what the experience brings.

What happens during a session?

Sessions take place at a licensed service center. The facilitator is present the entire time. A session typically runs four to six hours. The psilocybin is lab-tested and sourced through Oregon’s regulated supply chain. The facilitator’s job is to hold steady presence — not to direct the experience.

How much does it cost?

Oregon’s model separates costs into three parts: a facilitator fee, a service center fee, and a psilocybin fee based on dosage. These are paid separately. See the rates page for specific pricing.
